Content Editing Upgrades (TinyMCE)
The TinyMCE editor is receiving multiple improvements to facilitate integration with Joomla!
Media Manager integration: Adding images and media has become easier with the updated picker that now opens the Joomla Media Manager.
Read More integration: The new Read More button provides a quicker way to insert article breaks.
And More:
- Link selector modal: new link picker asset (JS + CSS) letting the article, contact and menu editor-xtd buttons insert links through a unified modal picker.
- Joomla text filter used by default: TinyMCE now defers to Joomla's own text filter configuration instead of its own valid-elements defaults.
- TinyMCE updated: 8.8.2 (tinymce-i18n 26.8.2).
Front-End Template (Cassiopeia)
Multi-level dropdown menus: Cassiopeia menus now support more than one sublevel in dropdown/collapsible layouts.
Module Login
mod_login link toggles: New options let admins hide the “Forgot your password?” and “Forgot your username?” links without a template override.
Defaults to Show, so no impact on existing sites.
Security Flag for Extensions
Security flag for extension updates: Developers can flag a release as a security update (severity None to Critical); flagged updates are highlighted in System -> Update -> Extensions and on the dashboard quick icon.

To enable, go to Extensions → Plugins, search for captcha, enable and set as default in Global Configuration.
Visual Workflow Editor

Manage your content workflow more easily with the new interactive workflow diagram that allows you to see the entire publication process.
Enable Workflows in Article Manager → Workflows and look for the graph button.
Media Custom Fields
Three New Media Custom Field Options: Audio, Video & Documents.
When creating Custom Fields for your content, you can now let content creators include any type of media, not just images.
The medias render as HTML5 <audio>, <video>, or document links (PDF, spreadsheets...).
Smarter Modules with Versioning and Multilingual Associations
Joomla has long offered version history for articles, and this feature is now available for modules as well.
If you run a multilingual website, you can now associate module instances across different languages, the same way you can associate articles across languages.
Other Enhancements Worth Noting
- Abbreviation <abbr> support in TinyMCE rich text editor, semantically correct and improving accessibility (look for the new Abbreviation button in the TinyMCE toolbar when editing content).
- Language override status & quick-create missing overrides UX improvements (status indicator, edit overrides easily).

We have 2 new custom fields available in Joomla 6.
- There is a new notes field that lets you add notes in between your custom fields or in your article. This can be very useful to add extra instructions between your custom fields to help guide your users.
- We now also have a numbers custom field that lets you display a number with optional currency formatting options.
Extended Versioning
Joomla's versioning system has been enhanced to include custom fields, tags and categories, allowing all content changes to be tracked, compared and restored.
